2) Introductory Letter to Parents

Dear parents/guardians,

Happy New Year! On behalf of my choir team, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you and your child/ ward to the Nanyang Primary Choir Family.

Teachers-in-Charge:
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce to you my team of Choir teachers:
Mr Chiew Keng Hoon is a legend and a pioneer in the Choral field in Singapore. He started our Nanyang Primary School Choir in 1992 and has been here since then, being the first person who took the choir overseas and conducted the choir to achieving many Gold Awards in SYF and medals in overseas competitions. He now takes the Senior choir and trains them vocally in Vocal Warm-ups and choral techniques.

Mdm Joyce Ang is new to the Nanyang choir family, although she has a been a conductor for many years other school choirs and organizations, achieving several awards in SYF competitions in the last 10 years. Together with Miss Yong Seow Leng, who is an accomplished piano teacher, Mdm Ang will be coaching the junior choir.

Besides these experienced teachers, the Choir also has the privilege of engaging Mrs Kwek-Puah Hwee Khee as our conductor. She has many years of experience in conducting choirs and achieving good results in SYF and International music festivals.

In addition, the Choir would also like to acknowledge a number of supportive parents who went out of their way out to help the choir teachers and the students in outings, performances as well as competitions in 2010. I would like to thank these parents, at this juncture, who relentlessly lent us their helping hands and undying support. We could not have done it without you!

This year, the Choir has a number of upcoming events planned, including taking part in an International Choral Festival and a Choral Examination. Due to the low sign-up rate of pupils for Los Angeles Music International Festival (please refer to the letter given out in November 2010), we will now set our sights on another international festival, held in July this year, which will take place in Taichung, Taiwan. The cost of the festival will be capped at a maximum of about $2000 (Please note that this is only an estimated figure). More details about the festival will be released soon. We hope that you will encourage your child to take part in this exciting event, as going overseas will no doubt maximise our choir’s exposure and better equip and prepare them for the next Singapore Youth Festival Choral Central Judging in 2012.

You will be able to find updates of the Choir in the Choir blog below:
